Upcoming in Gray Wolves Volleyball: The 2023 women's volleyball season comes to an end on Wednesday evening for Lourdes University. The Gray Wolves head south to Lima, Ohio to battle the University of Northwestern Ohio to wrap up the two-match road trip.
Head Coach Greg Reitz: In his 14th season on the Lourdes bench,
Greg Reitz has a 231-202 (.533) record at the helm of the Gray Wolves. In his 16th season overall as a women's head coach, Reitz has a 251-237 (.516) career mark. He is the only head coach in Lourdes program's history and was named WHAC Coach of the Year in 2015.
Series Notes: Lourdes leads the all-time series against 13-11 dating back to Oct. 2, 2010. The Racers snapped the Gray Wolves' seven-match series winning streak earlier this year with a straight sets victory over Lourdes inside the Ebeid Rec Center on Sept. 13. Lourdes holds a 7-3 series advantage in matches played in Lima, Ohio.
Wrapping Up Last Week: Lourdes dropped a 25-18, 25-21, 25-20 decision to Lawrence Tech on Wednesday evening.
Kylee McBride led the Gray Wolves with seven kills while
Jolie Sobb had 13 digs in the loss. On Friday, Michigan-Dearborn spoiled Lourdes' Senior Night with a 25-18, 25-15, 25-23 win over the Gray Wolves. McBride had a team-high nine kills while
Shelby White picked up seven digs. The Gray Wolves closed the week on Saturday with a 25-11, 25-20, 25-12 setback at Siena Heights.
Madison Smith and
Rachel Allison each had four kills while
Maddie White tallied 11 digs.
Scouting Northwestern Ohio: The Racers snapped a two-match losing skid on Saturday with a four-set triumph at Rochester (Mich.). Logan Thomas has a team-high 357 kills this season while Taylor Reust is hitting a team-best .212. Savanna Reed has handed out 667 assists while Bailey Gregory paces the team with 47 service aces. Defensively, Aubree Ricketts has picked up 466 digs while Reust has 75 total blocks, including 14 of the solo variety.
End of the Road: Lourdes has five seniors that will be concluding their Gray Wolf careers on Wednesday evening.
Chelsie Raabe and
Ella Lewis have both been with the program for three seasons while
McKenna Hall is wrapping up her fourth at Lourdes.
Kylee McBride and
Macey Zinser have both spent five years wearing a Gray Wolf uniform.
McBride in the Record Books: Kylee McBride enters the finale ranked fourth in program history with 792 total kills. She needs just eight more to match Stephanie Ruffing (2015-2016) for third all-time with 800 kills. In addition, McBride is second all-time with 2,748 career attempts. She also ranks ninth in program history with 645 career digs and is 10th with 99 career blocks.
Hall Also on the All-Time Charts: McKenna Hall is in sixth place on the all-time kills list with 718. Hall is also third all-time with 2,478 career attempts and ranks fifth with 777 career digs. Her 100 service aces rank fourth and her 107 blocks are ninth most in program history.
Moving Into Second All-Time: Katey Stakolich has moved into second place all-time with 1,572 career assists, passing Hannah Thompson (2010-2011) on the all-time list. She trails just Meghan Birr (2015-2016) who finished her career with 2,583 career helpers.
Lots of Action: Both
Kylee McBride and
McKenna Hall have seen lots of action since arriving on campus five years ago. McBride is tied with
Cammy Smith (2019-2022) for eighth having appeared in 93 matches wearing the terra cotta and black while her 311 sets are also eighth most all-time. McBride will move into a tie for seventh on the sets played list with two more stanza, matching Ali Mass' (2010-2013) total of 313. Hall ranks 10th all-time having appeared in 87 contests and 299 total sets.
From the Track to Leading Hitter: Lindsay Pumford had competed on the Lourdes track team the last two seasons before switching over to the volleyball court. The Gray Wolf middle blocker has led the team with a .187 hitting percentage this season and also is tied for second on the squad with 28 total blocks.
From the Service Line: McKenna Hall has had a strong year from the service line. She has dialed up 34 aces this year (0.42/set) while committing just 12 service errors in 81 sets of action.
Solid Freshman Season: Arleena Willer is wrapping up her rookie season with the Gray Wolves leading the team with 287 digs, an average of 3.88 per set. She has served as the team's libero for most of the season.
Whites are Digging Up Balls: Both
Shelby White and
Maddie White tallied career highs in digs for the Gray Wolves in back-to-back matches last week. Shelby picked up seven digs against Michigan-Dearborn on Friday after having registered just seven digs the entire season entering the match. Maddie recorded her first double figure dig match at Lourdes on Saturday at Siena Heights, picking up a team-high 11 digs.
This and That: McKenna Hall is the only Gray Wolves to appear in all 24 matches this season ... Lourdes has yet to sweep an opponent this year ...
Karina Norman made her season debut on Saturday at Siena Heights, registering two digs ... the Gray Wolves have won the opening set in eight of 24 matches this year.
