Upcoming in Gray Wolves Soccer: After setting a school record with nine victories in 2022, Lourdes will open its ninth season of intercollegiate women's soccer on Sunday afternoon. The Gray Wolves will host Roosevelt at Wildcat Stadium before embarking on a three-match road trip.
Head Coach Jackie Phillips: In her ninth season on the Lourdes bench,
Jackie Phillips has a 53-70-17 (.439) record at the helm of the Gray Wolves as well as overall as a head coach. She is the only head coach in Lourdes program's history.
Series Notes: Lourdes and Roosevelt are meeting on the pitch for just the second time ever. The Gray Wolves and Lakers battled to a scoreless draw in Arlington Heights, Ill. on Sept. 3, 2022 in Lourdes' second match of last season.
Wrapping Up 2022: Lourdes finished the 2022 season with a 9-5-4 record overall, setting a new school mark for wins in a year. The Gray Wolves had a 6-4-1 mark in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play, tying for fifth in the league ledger. Lourdes picked up its first WHAC tournament win ever with a 1-0 victory at Lawrence Tech in the quarterfinals before falling in the semifinals 2-0 at Madonna.
Scouting Roosevelt: The Lakers are also opening their 2023 season on Sunday. Roosevelt went 5-7-4 overall and 5-5-3 in the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference last season, tying for eighth place. Among the returnees, Nyah Bejarano had the most points on the Lakers last year with 11, including a team-high seven assists. Gris Gurrola scored three times for Roosevelt and had the most goals of any returnee. Roxana Herrera played a majority of the minutes in goal in 2022 for Roosevelt, and returns after sporting a 1.93 goals against average and a .667 save percentage last year.
Lourdes in Season Openers: Lourdes is 3-3-2 all-time in season openers after defeating Rio Grande 2-1 to begin the 2022 campaign. The Gray Wolves have earned a result in two straight openers after tying Rio Grande 1-1 in 2021. Lourdes is 2-3 when beginning the season at home.
Gray Wolves in Home Openers: Lourdes is 3-4-1 all-time in home openers. The Gray Wolves won a home opener at Wildcat Stadium for the first time since the 2016 season with their victory over Rio Grande in 2022. The other two home opening wins came in the program's first two seasons of 2015 and 2016.
Facing the CCAC: Including last season's draw against Roosevelt, Lourdes is 2-0-4 all-time against current members of the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference. The Gray Wolves are 1-0 against Judson and 1-0-2 versus Holy Cross (Ind.). In addition to the draw with Roosevelt, Lourdes also has played Saint Xavier to a draw.
Returning 2022 Award Winners: Lourdes returns three of its Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference honorees from 2022.
Emmy Rodger was named a First Team All-WHAC selection in for the second straight season after notching a 0.72 goals against average and an .822 save percentage while logging a school-record 10 shutouts.
Karlie Heilman earned Second Team All-WHAC honors after anchoring the Gray Wolves defense. She also had a goal and an assist in 18 matches.
Natalie Samples was selected to the WHAC All-Newcomer Team after scoring a goal in 16 appearances during her rookie season.
Top Returning Scorer: Kayla Dillinger is the Gray Wolves top scorer that is back from 2022 after scoring four goals and adding an assist for nine total points. She shared the team lead in goals and was second on the roster in total points. Her 15 shots on goal were most of any Lourdes player last season. Dillinger's five career goals tie her for 10th on Lourdes' all-time list with
Emily Johnson (2019-2022) and her 13 total points are tied with Tara Blundell (2015, 2017) for 10th all-time as well.
A Record Holder in Goal: Emmy Rodger is coming off her second straight record-setting season in 2022. She set a new school single season mark with a 0.72 goals against average while recording a program-best 10 shutouts. For her career, Rodger is the all-time leader with a 0.83 GAA, an .837 save percentage, and 14 clean sheets. She ranks third in program history with 134 total saves.
Lots of Experience: Gianna Salatino ranks eighth in program history with 45 career starts entering the 2023 season. She is one starting assignment behind Kerstyn Williams (2017-2021) for seventh on the all-time list. Salatino has appeared in 53 career matches overall, just five away from a spot in the top-10 on the Gray Wolves' all-time chart.
Gray Wolves Tabbed Sixth in WHAC Preseason Poll: Lourdes was selected to finish in sixth place in the WHAC this season in the preseason poll conducted of the league's head coaches. The Gray Wolves were picked just behind fifth place Northwestern Ohio. Aquinas was chosen to win the league crown.
