UNOH and Lawrence Tech Up Next for Women's Soccer

Upcoming in Gray Wolves Soccer: Unbeaten in its last three matches, Lourdes returns to the road on Wednesday afternoon to battle the University of Northwestern Ohio.  The Gray Wolves then return to Wildcat Stadium for four if its next five contests, beginning with a Saturday evening showdown with Lawrence Tech.

Head Coach Jackie Phillips: In her ninth season on the Lourdes bench, Jackie Phillips has a 57-72-18 (.449) record at the helm of the Gray Wolves as well as overall as a head coach.  She is the only head coach in Lourdes program's history.

Series Notes: Northwestern Ohio has won all nine previous matches against Lourdes in a series that dates back to Oct. 14, 2015.  Last season the Racers defeated the Gray Wolves 2-0 at Wildcat Stadium.  UNOH holds a 5-0 series edge in matches played in Lima, Ohio.  Lawrence Tech is 4-3-2 against Lourdes in a series that began Oct. 21, 2015.  The Gray Wolves and Lawrence Tech battled to a scoreless draw in last year's regular season meeting before Lourdes downed the Blue Devils 1-0 in the WHAC quarterfinals.  Both matches last season were played in Southfield, Mich.  The series is tied all-time at Wildcat Stadium 1-1-1. 

Wrapping Up Last Week: Lourdes and Goshen battled for 90 minutes last Wednesday afternoon at Wildcat Stadium before setting for a scoreless draw.  Emmy Rodger made two saves to earn the shutout for the Gray Wolves.  On Saturday, Lourdes opened WHAC play with a 2-0 win over Cornerstone in Grand Rapids, Mich.  Keira Boskovich netted the match-winner just 6:16 into the contest while Kayden Firsdon added an insurance goal early in the second half.  Rodger had six stops in net for her second shutout of the week.

Scouting Northwestern Ohio: The Racers have dropped three straight matches after falling 2-1 at Siena Heights on Saturday.  Janne Esther Frauenpreiss and Anne Sjolte each lead Northwestern Ohio offensively with two goals and four total points.  The Racers do not have anyone with more than one assist.  In goal, Sophia Eisner has played a majority of the minutes, posting a 1.57 goals against average and a .714 save percentage.

Scouting Lawrence Tech: The Blue Devils enter the week unbeaten in their last six (5-0-1) matches after defeating Indiana Tech 3-0 at home on Saturday.  Lawrence Tech hosts Rochester (Mich.) on Wednesday before visiting Lourdes.  Maliea May has a team-high five goals and 10 points this season while Kathleen Ferguson and Mikayla Waranauckas have two assists each.  Between the posts, Gabi Nelson has registered a 0.58 goals against average and an .882 save percentage.

Quite a Start for Boskovich: Kiera Boskovich has led the offense through the first seven matches this season, scoring three times and adding three assists.  She tallied the match-winning goal on Saturday at Cornerstone to give her nine points on the year.  The match-winner was the first of her career.  Boskovich's three goals have come on just six shot attempts thus far this season.

First Collegiate Goal for Firsdon: Kayden Firsdon found the back of the net for the first time in her collegiate career on Saturday, giving the Gray Wolves a 2-0 lead early in the second half.  The freshman had previously handed out three assists and now has five points on the year, third most on the squad.

Back-to-Back Shutouts: The Lourdes defense has now recorded five clean sheets in its seven matches this season.  Emmy Rodger was in net for the pair of shutouts last week, making eight combined saves in the two matches.  Rodger sports a 0.74 goals against average and an .821 save percentage thus far this season.

Moving Up the Scoring List: Kayla Dillinger continues to move up the scoring list.  Dillinger has seven career goals moving her into a tie for eighth place on Lourdes' all-time list with Katie Varney (2019-2021) and Erin Caldwell (2018-2022).  Dillinger's 17 career points also move her into a tie with Jada Foster (2015-2016) for eighth place on that list. Dillinger has three career match-winning goals as well, tying her with Clare Ciarlino (2016-2017) for seventh in program history.  

A Record Holder in Goal: Emmy Rodger is programs' the all-time leader with a 0.81 goals against and an .835 save percentage.  She has increased her school mark to 17 shutouts and also ranks third in program history with 157 total saves.

Pencil Her in the Lineup: Gianna Salatino has started every match for the Gray Wolves this season, giving her 52 career starts wearing the terra cotta and black.  She has moved into sixth place alone on the career list and Salatino now needs just one more starting assignment to match Abigail Mann (2019-2022) for a spot in the top-five on the all-time list.  Salatino has appeared in 60 career matches, 10th most in program history. 

Captains Named: Lourdes has a pair of co-captains for the 2023 season.  Simona Iacobacci and Gianna Salatino in the leadership position.  Iacobacci is a first time team captain while Salatino is serving in the role for the second consecutive season.

Gray Wolves Tabbed Sixth in WHAC Preseason Poll: Lourdes was selected to finish in sixth place in the WHAC this season in the preseason poll conducted of the league's head coaches.  The Gray Wolves were picked just behind fifth place Northwestern Ohio.  Aquinas was chosen to win the league crown.

This and That: With the win at Cornerstone, Lourdes has won three straight WHAC openers and four of its last five ... the Gray Wolves are outshooting opponents 85-55 ... Lourdes has yielded just two first half goals this season.
