SYLVANIA, Ohio (LourdesAthletics.com) -- The Lourdes University women's soccer team continued their undefeated streak at home with a 4-nil victory over Lawrence Tech University on Saturday, Oct. 12, at Wildcat Stadium. Despite an hour-long rain delay with 25 minutes remaining in the second half, the Gray Wolves showed resilience, adding two more goals after play resumed.
The Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference victory improved the Gray Wolves league record to 5-2, good for fourth in the conference standings. Their overall record sits at 8-2-1 with a 5-0-1 home stance showing.
Senior Laura Rincon opened the scoring just three minutes into the match, finishing a well-placed assist from freshman Taylir Lynam to give the Gray Wolves an early 1-0 advantage.
Lynam added to the lead in the 20th minute, scoring her first of two goals on the night after Cecily Hughes set her up with a perfectly timed pass. With 25 minutes remaining in the first half, Lourdes led 2-0, but the weather quickly took center stage as thunder and lightning forced a one-hour weather delay.
When play resumed, the Gray Wolves wasted no time in extending their lead. In the 55th minute, Kayla Dillinger netted Lourdes' third goal, finishing off a rebound from a ricocheted shot by Lynam. Just five minutes later, Lynam scored again, sealing the deal with a strike from close range, assisted by Kiera Boskovich.
Lourdes held strong defensively, securing their eighth shutout of the season and cruising to a 4-0 victory to remain undefeated at home.
Match Notes:
- Head Coach Jackie Phillip's (67-80-20) is 8-2-1 on the season, the best in program history, thus far.
- Additionally, the win marked the eighth of the season, topping last season's six. It mark's the sixth season of eight-plus wins in the program's 10-year history.
- The win marked the fifth conference victory of the season marking just the fourth campaign in program history with five-plus conference wins. The 2022 team holds the most conference wins with six.
- In goal for the 11th time this season was Roger, who turned in her 33rd career clean sheet with the 4-nil win.
- The Gray Wolves currently stand fourth in the WHAC standings with their impressive 5-2 league record.
