Final Results
Lourdes won two of the three doubles matches on Sunday evening, but John Carroll swept singles action to defeat the Gray Wolves 7-2 inside Chagrin Falls Athletic Club in Chagrin Falls, Ohio.
Lourdes top team of
Bella Chela (Lusaka, Zambia/Pretoria H.S. for Girls) and
Mallory Schardt (Temperance, Mich./Bedford H.S.) posted an 8-4 victory while
Olivia Schoppa (Gutersloh, Germany/Stadtisches Gymnasium Gutersloh) and
Laura Ortiz (Bogota, Columbia/Gimnasio Los Pinos) posted an 8-5 triumph at the second spot. John Carroll (3-5) picked up an 8-0 win at third doubles against the Gray Wolf duo of
Luciana Merediz (Lima, Perus/Colegio Nuestra Senora del Carmen) and
Vanessa Skouroukos (Toledo, Ohio/Waite H.S.).
"These ladies have been really committed to improving doubles skills this year so it was amazing to see both of those wins," head coach
Epifani Jones said afterwards. "We are daily making incremental improvements in singles and it's a joy to watch the process."
The Blue Streaks would sweep all six singles contests, but Lourdes forced a pair to third sets. Schardt won the opening set at number two singles before dropping a 1-6, 6-4, 6-2 decision. Schoppa did the same at the third spot before suffering a 3-6, 6-1, 6-4 setback. Chela lost 6-1, 6-2 at the top of the order while Ortiz fell by the same score at fourth singles. Merediz fell 6-0, 6-1 at number five while Skouroukos rounded out the lineup with a 6-2, 6-3 setback.
Lourdes (1-5) returns home on Saturday afternoon as the Gray Wolves host Saint Francis (Ind.). The first serve is set for 4 p.m. at Shadow Valley.
