SYLVANIA, Ohio – Lourdes University's
Samarah Arendsen has been named the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) Defensive Player of the Week in women's soccer following a pair of standout performances in goal for the Gray Wolves.
Arendsen earned two more shutouts as Lourdes extended its unbeaten start in WHAC play. The senior goalkeeper recorded a three-save clean sheet in the Gray Wolves' 1-0 road win at Aquinas, handing the Saints their first league loss of the season. Earlier in the week, she anchored a Lourdes defense that did not allow a single shot on goal in a 1-0 home victory over Cleary.
Through eight matches, Arendsen has posted a 0.38 goals-against average, six shutouts, and 25 total saves while helping Lourdes to a 7-1 overall record and a perfect 5-0 WHAC mark.
This marks the first WHAC weekly honor of the season for Arendsen and the second of her career.
Lourdes continues conference play on Wednesday, Oct. 8, when the Gray Wolves host Concordia (Mich.) at 4 p.m. at Wildcat Stadium.
