SOUTH LYON, Mich. – The Lourdes University men's and women's golf teams each earned third-place finishes at the Cleary Cougar Invitational on Tuesday, competing at Moose Ridge Golf Club in South Lyon, Michigan.
Men's Tournament Recap
The Gray Wolves turned in a team score of 314 (+30) to finish behind only Madonna (307) and Rochester (312) in the ten-team field.
Senior
Justin Altenbach (Lima, Ohio/Shawnee) paced Lourdes with a 73 (+2), tying for the individual lead among the 47 golfers before tiebreakers. Freshman Ted Robertson (Maumee, Ohio/Anthony Wayne) followed closely with a 77 (+6) to tie for seventh place, while
Charlie Robertson (Whitehouse, Ohio/Anthony Wayne) and
Brock Fussell (Oregon, Ohio/Clay) each carded 82 (+11) to share 20th. Sophomore
Jonathan Huston (Genoa, Ohio/Genoa Area) rounded out the scoring with an 84 (+13) for 26th place.
The result marks the third straight top-five team finish for the Gray Wolves during their fall schedule.
Women's Tournament Recap
On the women's side, Lourdes carded a 382 (+98) to place third out of eight teams.
Junior
Claire Recker (Findlay, Ohio/Van Buren) claimed medalist honors, shooting a 79 (+8) to win the tournament by three strokes over Spring Arbor's Elle Bolkema. Senior
Shauna White (Somerset, Ohio/Sheridan) finished tied for 11th with a 96 (+25), while freshman
Addison Bozynski (Huron, Mich./Huron) shot 100 (+29) to tie for 18th. Sophomore
Kenzie Richardson (Toledo, Ohio/Whitmer) added a 107 (+36) for a share of 25th, and freshman
Jaylee Perez (Wauseon, Ohio/Wauseon) closed with a 112 (+41) in 28th place.
The win by Recker marks her first tournament victory of the season.
Both Lourdes teams return to action on Monday, October 13, hosting the Lourdes Invitational at Sylvania Country Club.
