MAUMEE, Ohio (LourdesAthletics.com) -- The Lourdes University women's tennis team opened its spring schedule on February 25th, facing the University of Northwestern Ohio (UNOH) in a Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference contest at the Shadow Valley Rec Center. The Gray Wolves battled but fell 7-0 in the conference matchup.
"I loved kicking off the season with a very strong opponent," said head coach
Epifani Jones. "It was a great test of the progress we've been making in practice. The small individual victories represent perseverance and should bode well for improved results in the long term", she finished.
In doubles action, the #1 team of Mallory Schardt and Olivia Schoppa, the #2 pair of Laura Ortiz and Luciana Merediz, and the #3 duo of Vanessa Skouroukos and Winter Richburg all fell by identical 6-0 scores, giving UNOH the doubles point.
In singles play, Schardt battled at the #1 position, taking three games in the first set but ultimately falling 3-6, 0-6 to Anna Ashurbekova. Schoppa, at #2 singles, lost 0-6, 0-6 to Anastasiia Orlova. Ortiz played at #3 but was defeated 0-6, 0-6 by Ines Vaillant. Merediz, in the #4 spot, fell 0-6, 0-6 to Patricia Herreros, while Skouroukos took two games in the opening set before dropping her match 2-6, 0-6 against Evelyn Beck. Richburg rounded out singles play at #6 but lost 0-6, 0-6 to Alexis Barnett.

Lourdes will return to action on Thursday, February 27th when the Gray Wolves travel to Ashland University for a 12 pm meeting in Ashland.
