ANN ARBOR, Mich. (LourdesAthletics.com) -- The Lourdes University women's tennis team secured a hard-fought 4-3 victory over Concordia University on Monday afternoon at the Liberty Athletic Club, with key performances across both singles and doubles play.
"There were so many highlights in today's match," head coach Epifani Jones said. "Tatum McQuery made her debut as a Gray Wolf, Luciana Merediz experienced her first win since joining the program, and Vanessa Skouroukos stood fast in her captaincy, clinching the win after the 3-all tie."
The Gray Wolves struggled in doubles play, as Concordia claimed wins at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles to secure the first point of the match. Lourdes' lone doubles victory came at No. 2, where Vanessa Skouroukos and Mallory Schardt teamed up for a 6-4 win.
Trailing 1-0 heading into singles action, Lourdes turned the tide with four victories. Mallory Schardt topped her opponent in the No. 1 singles with 6-1,7-5 scores, while Olivia Schoppa earned a dominant 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 2 singles. Luciana Merediz picked up her first win as a Gray Wolf with a 6-0, 6-1 triumph at No. 4, while Vanessa Skouroukos secured the decisive point with a 6-3, 6-1 victory at No. 5 singles to seal the team win.
