MAUMEE, Ohio (LourdesAthletics.com) – The Lourdes University women's tennis team battled against Indiana Tech University on Tuesday afternoon at Shadow Valley Tennis Club but ultimately fell 6-1 in a Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) contest.
"The ladies took the lessons of last week's matches and turned it up a notch," said head coach Epifani Jones. "Everyone is embracing their individual assignments and fighting for the next level of play."
In doubles action, Mallory Schardt and Laura Ortiz dropped a 6-2 match at No. 1 doubles against Daniela Rubio and Paula San Jose. Olivia Schoppa and Vanessa Skouroukos battled at No. 2 doubles but fell 6-3 to Criss Echevarria and Danica Kuntz. The team of Winter Richburg and Luciana Merediz recieved a default win at No. 3.
In singles play, Schardt (No. 1) took on Rubio but fell 6-0, 6-3. Schoppa (No. 2) faced off against Echevarria and dropped a 6-3, 6-4 decision. Ortiz (No. 3) won games in both sets but ultimately fell 6-1, 6-1 to San Jose. Merediz (No. 4) was defeated by Nayra Orellana 6-1, 6-1, while Skouroukos (No. 5) dropped her match against Kuntz 6-3, 6-0. Lourdes secured its lone point at No. 6 singles by default.
