Box Score The Lourdes University women's volleyball team opened its 2025 campaign in strong fashion, defeating Goshen College in four sets behind a balanced attack and steady ball control.
Senior Rachel Allison powered the offense with a match-high 16 kills and four blocks, setting the tone for a Gray Wolves squad that showed poise despite it being their first live action of the season. She was complemented by Jolie Sobb's 12 kills, while Aleya Baptiste added nine kills, three aces, and three blocks to provide a spark from the service line and at the net.
Setter Zoe Schuele orchestrated the offense with precision, dishing out 40 assists and keeping Goshen's defense off balance by spreading the ball around to all of her hitters. "Zoe did a tremendous job running our offense and distributing the ball," head coach Greg Reitz said. "I'm really proud of how we performed tonight, especially given that we came in without any live experience. We served aggressively, passed well, and handled the pressure. Alayia, Jolie, and Emma were rock solid in serve receive, and this is a great foundation to build on for the season."
Defensively, Lourdes kept Goshen out of rhythm with strong serve-receive play. Emma Coffey was steady off the bench, chipping in two service aces that shifted momentum in key moments. Mia Karl added six kills and three blocks, giving the Gray Wolves another option in the middle.
Goshen was led by Sami Lard and Brenna Spangler, who combined for double-digit kills, but Lourdes' balance proved too much as the Gray Wolves closed out the night with confidence.
With the win, Lourdes not only starts the season 1–0 but also showcased its depth and composure, promising signs as the team looks ahead to the grind of the season.
