Lourdes registered its 10
th victory of the season, and fourth in a row, on Sunday afternoon as the Gray Wolves defeated Saint Francis (Ind.) 6-1 at Shadow Valley Tennis Club.
The Gray Wolves took the doubles point.
Theo Casadei (Annecy Le Vieux, France/CNED) and
Ondrej Skokan (Pardubice, Czech Republic/Gymnaszium Dasicka 1083) teamed for a 6-2 victory at the second spot. Saint Francis (4-11) won at third doubles over
Josh Parish (Columbus, Ohio/Cristo Rey H.S.) and
Alvaro Trillo-Sanchez (Madrid, Spain/Churchill County [Nev.] H.S.) 6-3, setting up the decisive first doubles match.
Ulises Barradas (Nueva Esparta, Venezuela/UE Colegio Madre Guadalupe) and
Victor Dieltiens (Altea, Spain Sint Eduardus [Belgium]) battled for a 7-5 win to clinch the opening point.
"We are continuing to see strong leadership from our upperclassmen at the top of the doubles lineup as Ulises and Victor solidify their partnership," head coach
Epifani Jones said afterwards.
Casadei picked up his 10
th singles win of the year at the second spot 6-4, 6-1 while Dieltiens also added a 6-2, 6-0 triumph at third singles. Barradas posted a 6-3, 7-5 win at fourth singles while Parish was a 6-1, 6-3 winner at number five. Trillo-Sanchez scored a 6-0, 6-4 triumph at the bottom of the lineup. Skokan suffered the team's lone setback, batting back after dropping the first set to force a tie-break in the third at number one singles before falling 6-4, 2-6, 7-6 (4).
"We are steadily improving in singles play and will continue to refine the details as we move into the back half of the season," Jones added.
Lourdes (10-2) returns to the court on Friday evening as the Gray Wolves travel to Grand Rapids, Mich. to face Aquinas. First serve is set for 6:30 p.m. at Grand Rapids Racquet Club.
